Letter: We're losing too many freedoms
This morning I put on a shirt that has the American flag and an eagle on it and says, "Land of the Free," and "Home of the Brave." That simple action and statement left me with a heavy heart.
Across this country, people are losing their freedoms and it needs to stop. Women are losing the right to make decisions about their bodies. Children, various races and people of differing faiths are losing the freedom from fear to do everyday activities: go to school, go to the grocery store, attend institutions of faith, go to the polls and vote, or any other everyday activity. Here in the Chicago area, the freedom to drive on the expressways or visit all the wonderful sites and activities in Chicago without the fear of being shot.
We need to vote out of office those politicians at all levels of government that are restricting our freedoms. Most of the population wants sensible gun laws and yet the Senate can't seem to get them passed.
Women have had the constitutional right to make decisions about their bodies for nearly 50 years and separation of church and state should allow that to continue. Every individual has a right to their opinions but that should not be forced on others.
Politicians are supposed to represent their constituents, not "big money" or organizations. If you want to address the loss of our freedoms, please get out and vote.
