Letter: Guns over people

Given the unspeakable racially motivated killings of predominantly African Americans in Buffalo and ten days later the unfathomable killing of 19 grade-school children and three adults in Texas, the debate over gun safety measures begins again - and again with predictably the same outcome - nothing with change and no laws to improve safety will be passed. The Republicans in the senate and the gun lobbyist will defend the sacredness of the Second amendment in spite of the number of the over 100 people killed each day in America. We are the only country on the face of the earth where mass killings regularly occur. You can bet on it happening again.

A typical suggestion by Republican is to arm more people. We need more guns. Texas has the most guns of any state so that argument does not hold water. I was told the GOP stand for the Grand Old Party - in reality it stand for Guns Over People. Shameful.
