Letter: Outlaw assault rifles

At a recent Republican candidates' debate on WGN-TV, all three began their time expressing sympathy and asking for prayers for the mass school shooting in Texas. Then, halfway through the show, when asked to give their opinions on the repeal of the state's FOID card requirement, they simply said they "support Second Amendment rights." They should be ashamed of themselves.

How many more children have to die before assault rifles are outlawed? No one should be able to own such a weapon except law enforcement and military. This is a no-brainer.
