Fremd woodworking students lauded for constructing holiday 'gift boxes'
On Friday, April 29, in front of Fremd High School, Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz, the village of Palatine and the Palatine Beautification Commission recognized the Fremd High School students who designed and constructed winter "gift boxes," which were displayed for the holidays at focal points within the village.
The boxes took two weeks to build and were made by three students in Fremd's woodworking class: Oscar Cordell, Eryk Przywara and Mia Hardy.
This isn't the first time the village's Beautification Commission and Paul Hardy, the Woodworking teacher at Fremd High School, have worked together on projects.
The "gift boxes" are the fourth project his students have created for the village. His students have also made the flower cart at the train station, the big wagon used for fall decorations, and the Santa sleigh in Towne Square Park.
"The students love to see their creations displayed around town and think it's really cool that years from now their kids will get to see what they made, too," said Hardy.
