Letter: County cannot accept weak management

As the Daily Herald reported last week, up to $4 million in tax revenue generated by the sale of cannabis over the last 18 months in DuPage County will go up in smoke. Current County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek's failure to properly notify the state to collect the money on the county's behalf is purportedly the cause of the loss.

DuPage County residents already pay some of the highest property tax rates in the nation. Additionally, DuPage County doubled its gas tax last year from $0.04 per gallon to $0.08 per gallon. Now, post-pandemic inflation is hitting American workers and families hard when it comes to gas, groceries and utility bills. That, combined with historic wage stagnation, has created a situation which could lead to another recession.

DuPage County has always been a great place to live. But incompetent management can quickly change things. The last thing we need here in DuPage County is a careless clerk's office squandering millions of dollars. Actions have consequences. And so do elections. This November, DuPage County voters should remember that.
