Suspected driver in Palatine hit and run faces felony charge

A Chicago man faces a felony charge stemming from a hit-and-run crash Friday in Palatine that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries, police announced Thursday.

Gregory G. Kelley, 61, of the 4100 block of West Adams Street, was arrested Tuesday and charged with failure to report an accident involving an injury, a Class 2 felony, police said.

Kelley appeared in court Wednesday in Rolling Meadows, where his bail was set at $25,000. His next court date has been set for June 3.

Police said that at 7:44 p.m. Friday, May 6, two pedestrians were struck by a dark-colored, mid-size SUV with tinted windows near the intersection of North Rand Road and Williams Drive.

One of the victims was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Detectives later identified Kelley as the SUV's driver, according to police.
