Nurses at 3 Advocate hospitals get special treat during National Nurses Week
As Advocate Aurora Health recognizes the dedication, compassion and skills of our nurses during National Nurses Week, local elected officials took time to express their thanks at hospitals that serve their districts.
Over the past several days, state Senators John Curran, Donald DeWitte and Dan McConchie joined nursing leaders at Advocate Good Samaritan, Sherman and Good Shepherd hospitals to hand out treats during a morning shift change.
The events are just one part of the robust effort to celebrate and thank the thousands of nurses working tirelessly across all Advocate Aurora sites. The organization is proud to host 22,000 nursing professionals and has 10 Magnet designated hospitals - a recognition for excellence in nursing.
"I have such gratitude for the nurses caring for patients within our hospital and others working throughout our community," said Susan Morby, chief nursing officer at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. "It's wonderful to see our team be recognized by local officials."
"Our nurses consistently provide excellent care to our patients and they love what they do," said Roseanne Niese, chief nursing officer at Good Samaritan in Downers Grove. "In the past two years, we've seen our nurses persevere so many times. I'm proud to work alongside them."
"We honor our nursing professionals this week because of the passion, resilience and skill they live out every day, throughout the year," added Mary Roesch, chief nursing officer at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. "It means so much to have our community also recognize the sacrifice and courage our nurses, especially after the last two years."
At each of the hospitals, the local officials greeted nurses during the morning shift change.
"Nurses have continued to deliver compassionate and high-quality care under extremely challenging circumstances," said state Sen. Curran. "This Nurses Appreciation event is just a small gesture that lets the hardworking staff at Advocate know their efforts and sacrifices are recognized and appreciated."
"These last few years have been extraordinarily challenging for nurses, and they have risen to the occasion at every turn," echoed state Sen. DeWitte. "For every instance where they went above and beyond, it is a pleasure to honor them during Nurses Week."
"Nurses are truly special people that deserve praise from us all," added state Sen. McConchie. "Nurses are the backbone of our health care system and are a lifeline for their patients. Without them, we wouldn't have the great care that we have come to know. Nurses have a challenging job, both physically and emotionally, but they care for their patients through thick and thin. We should thank them not just during Nurses Week, but every day."
