Batavia Public Library hosts an art exhibit by local photographer John Stark

This month, Batavia Public Library hosts an art exhibit by local photographer John Stark, a longtime Sugar Grove resident.

Stark began his lifelong interest in photography as a child when his cousin gave him his old Zeiss Ikon film camera. He started a slow transition from film to digital in 2004.

While he is essentially self-taught, Stark has taken a few photography courses. He photographs regularly with two friends or on his own almost daily. His favorite photo subjects are landscapes, wildlife, people, and street photography. He has photographed extensively in Kane County, around the country, and beyond.

The exhibit features photographs that display Stark's interest in black and white images.

The photographs portray people, places, and things that Stark found interesting and that center on the interaction of light and line and negative space to isolate elements within the frame.

The exhibit runs through May 31 and may be viewed on the library's Art Wall during regular library hours.

The Batavia Public Library is at 10 S. Batavia Ave. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Stark is a member of the Aurora Art League, the photography group, The Monochromists, and the American Association of Teachers of German. Framed prints are available for purchase.

Proceeds from the sale of the photos will be donated to the Student Scholarship Endowment of the American Association of Teachers of German.

Prices are available at stark.john62@gmail.com. Please include the photo's title in your inquiry. Most images are available framed or as prints.
