Letter: Women will still get abortions but how safely?
Throughout the history of humankind, women have sought to terminate unwanted pregnancies by whatever means they had available: inserting foreign objects, drinking or inserting abortifacients, pounding on their bellies, soaking in overly hot soapy baths, visiting back-alley clinics.
These methods often came at the cost of a woman's reproductive future, total health, and even life. If Roe v. Wade is overturned we will be hurled back into these primitive days of female health care that are so abhorrent. I remember the threat/fear of having no alternatives in my teens and early adulthood. No self-respecting woman should have to live though that.
My only suggestion meanwhile is "Herbalists, prepare!" There are some mighty good plants in woods and fields and your services will be much in demand in neighboring states.
We in Illinois just need to be sure to maintain the rights guaranteed us in the 2019 Reproductive Health Act.
