Northbrook Police make arrest in 2021 criminal damage case
Northbrook Police arrested a Highland Park man in connection to a 2021 criminal damage case.
Robert Mauer, 54, was arrested and charged on May 2 with two felony counts of criminal damage to property that occurred Oct. 9, 2021, on the 1300 block of Meadow Road, Northbrook.
Shortly after midnight of that day, police said, officers responded to an alarm near that address. They found a parked Tesla with a broken driver's side window and blood on the driver's mirror and inside the car.
Police also found a rip on an outdoor dining tent belonging to a nearby restaurant and blood inside the tent, as well as a discharged fire extinguisher, police said.
The police found Maurer with blood on his hands in some bushes on the 1300 block of Shermer Road. Police handcuffed Mauer and put him in the back of their squad car while continuing their investigation. Mauer was subsequently released pending further investigation.
Northbrook Police sent blood samples from the scene and from the handcuffs placed on Mauer to the Northern Illinois Regional Crime Lab for comparison.
On April 9 the lab report came back and indicated a match, police said, leading to Mauer's arrest.
