Barrington's Eisenbarth overpowers Conant
On a cold and wet day, Barrington's Logan Eisenbarth brought the heat.
Eisenbarth struck out 15 as Barrington remained on fire with an 8-1 win over Conant Wednesday in Barrington.
"My goal every game is 10 strikeouts," said Eisenbarth, who has committed to Wisconsin-Whitewater.
"I exceeded that today. This was one of the best games of my life. Obviously, the conditions were not ideal."
Eisenbarth didn't let the cold and the steady rain bother him at all, tossing a complete game. He struck out every person in the Conant lineup at least once and threw 99 pitches, 72 of which were strikes. He allowed four hits and walked two.
"Pitching is the what the game is really big on," Eisenbarth said. "You have to work on it a lot. It something I always wanted to do, which is to throw the best that you can and have everything working. I did that today."
Barrington coach Pat Wire said that Eisenbarth has been tough on batters both last season and thus far this season.
"That was certainly one of his better ones for sure," Wire said. "Credit to him being able to locate in addition to being overpowering. I think they started to get frustrated and swing at pitches a little out of the zone and that helped us."
Conant (4-7, 2-2) got to Eisenbarth before he heated up.
Jake Parpet led off the game with a double to center, Logan Gale followed with a bunt single. Parpet then scored on the back end of a double steal to put the Cougars up 1-0.
It was all Eisenbarth and Barrington (10-1-2, 4-0) from there.
Barrington took the lead for good in their half of the first. Evan Jon-Baptiste singled and went to second on a wild pitch. Jake Kohenzo singled and driving home Jon-Baptiste. After an Eisenbarth single, Kohenzo scored on Nick Lacson's fielder's choice.
Conant had a chance to get back into the game in the third. The Cougars loaded the bases with one out. But Eisenbarth dug in deep, striking out the next two batters to end the threat.
Barrington then broke the game open in the third when the Broncos struck for four runs.
J.D. Swarbrick singled and later scored on Lacson's sacrifice fly. Eisenbarth, who had two hits in the day, doubled and then later scored on Mason Rasmussen's RBI single. Rasmussen scored on the back end of a double steal. Kade Schneider, who also singled, came home on a passed ball to make it 6-1.
Barrington closed out their scoring in the fourth with Jno-Baptiste walking and then scoring on error. Kohnazo, who reached on the error, scored on Lacson's third RBI of the game and his only hit, a single.
"Every time there are runners on I just want to put the ball in play," Lacson said. "I am looking to get the guy over or drive in a run. Whatever I can do."
Conant coach Derek Fivelson said his team, who had their three-game winning streak broken, made too many mistakes and struck out too many times to stay in the game with Barrington.
"When you play a top area team and team that has won our division the last few years, you can't make mistakes," Fivelson said. "We had a problem earlier in the year with strikeouts. Hopefully we can change all that tomorrow."
The two teams meet again Thursday with Conant hosting Barrington in Hoffman Estates.
