Geneva Methodists to plant trees in Elburn, hold Earth Day service
Celebrating Earth Day April 22, United Methodist Church of Geneva congregants will plant trees at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at Elburn Forest Preserve, 1N750 Read St. in Elburn. The public is invited.
Pastor Lisa Telomen said, "This is a family friendly event. Dress for the weather and bring a refillable water bottle and gloves. Water, snacks and tools are provided."
The church's Creation Care team is the sponsor.
On Sunday, April 24 at 9 a.m., an Earth Day worship service will be held at the church, 211 Hamilton St. in Geneva. The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.
Pastor Telomen said, "From trees to bees, to rivers and the seas, God gives us a wondrous home to live in! Our music will help us to celebrate our earth home, with hymns and a special choral anthem with visuals. Our children's sermon will help us think about lessons learned when we all stopped for the pandemic and the healing that began for our earth and its plants and creatures then.
"Our adult sermon will help us to think about ways we can say yes to being co-creators, care-takers and collaborators with God and Jesus to help God's kingdom plans for the earth and all who live here to flourish," Pastor Telomen said.
After worship, stop by the fellowship hall for ideas to live more lightly in our world; sign up to help plant a garden for Hesed House in Aurora; learn about upcoming native and pollinator plant sales; and more. There will be sustainable and plantable gifts for folks too.
After Earth Sunday service on April 24, the Creation Care team will hold a fundraiser to help build the Hesed House garden. Seeds, sunflower seedlings, reusable straws and mesh vegetable bags will be available.
Learn about the Creation Care team's plans and sign up for volunteer work days on April 30, May 3 and May 7. Families are welcome.
