Bensenville named a Tree City USA

For the 31st consecutive year, Bensenville has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.

To achieve Tree City USA recognition, Bensenville met the program's four requirements: the formation of a tree board or department, having a tree-care ordinance, having an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

In 2021, Bensenville's urban forest management included planting 244 trees, pruning 850 and removing 160 that were dead or dying. The Arboretum at Redmond Recreational Complex was officially opened, giving Bensenville a Level II Arboreta accreditation.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. The Arbor Day Foundation was founded in 1972.
