Hunting 3,000 Easter eggs: Aurora church to host 7th annual Scramble

Offering 3,000 plastic Easter eggs, Aurora Advent Christian Church in Aurora will hold its seventh annual Easter Egg Scramble at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, on the church lawn, 905 N. Edgelawn Drive.

Children through fifth grade are invited, said the Rev. Matt Mull, senior pastor. The Scramble will be held rain or shine. Admission and parking are free.

The event will open with a volunteer recounting the biblical Easter story in the church's fellowship hall. Then attendees will gather outdoors for the hunt.

Three flights of egg hunters are planned. With a countdown from Pastor Mull, younger children will go first, followed by older children and a final open group invited to scoop up remaining eggs.

Eggs will contain candy and tickets to redeem for prizes. Participants are asked to bring baskets.

Last year, more than 100 prizes donated by congregants included toys, sports balls, bubble sets, kites, children's bibles and gift cards for fast-food restaurants.

The Scramble concludes in Fellowship Hall where children can claim prizes and recycle empty eggs.

Holy Week activities in partnership with Redeemer Community Church began on Palm Sunday, April 10. Children opened the 10 a.m. service by parading to the altar waving palm fronds.

Events continue with a joint Good Friday service with Redeemer at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 15.

Easter worship will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 17. At 11 a.m., refreshments and fellowship will follow in the church hall.
