Naperville woman charged with buying gun using fake FOID card

A Naperville woman was charged with forgery after purchasing a gun with a fraudulently obtained FOID card, according to the Illinois attorney general's office.

Atanda Williams, 43, of Naperville said she was not a convicted felon on a FOID card application in 2014, despite having been previously convicted of forgery in 2001 and 2004, authorities said.

According to authorities, Williams used the fraudulent FOID card to purchase a gun in 2016.

The gun was found by officers executing a search warrant in 2019, authorities said.

On March 7, 2022, Williams pleaded guilty to possession of 100 to 400 grams of a controlled substance, authorities said.

"Today's arraignment highlights my office's continued efforts to address gun violence in all its forms," said Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul. "Individuals who lie on FOID applications in order to purchase a firearm should be held accountable. I will continue working with the ISP to ensure firearms do not get in the hands of those who legally should not have access to them."

Williams has been out of jail since posting a $5,000 bond on January 22.

"Keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals is a duty the Illinois State Police takes very seriously," said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly. "The collaborative work between ISP special agents and the Illinois attorney general's office is evidence of our commitment to bringing those who break the law to justice and protecting the rights of citizens."
