Letter: Seek guidance toward peace

The blue and gold in the flag of Ukraine is universal to all nations. The blue of the sky represents the soft blue veil of Heaven's protective mantle. May the Star of the Sea and the bright Morning Star guide us and guard us in this tempest of war.

The gold of the fields of grain in Ukraine represents our daily bread, which we share in thankful, loving unity.

As Pope John Paul II said, "Deprived of food, shelter, clean water, medicine and freedom, poor nations will judge those who take these goods away from them. We are meant to live in the unity of community and share in the needs of others."

Dedicating humanity, especially the people of Russia and Ukraine, Pope Francis recently said, asking the Mother of Jesus, "Let us never run out of wine, the wine of hope."

Most pray to God, but let us all add a strong loud demand that war may end and peace spread throughout the world, that all our needs and anxieties be relieved and our hopes fulfilled before our throats become sore and our knees become raw as we kneel in prayer.
