Elk Grove's Art Senteno namedAssociate Principal of the Year

Elk Grove High School Associate Principal Arturo Senteno has been honored as 2022 Illinois Assistant Principal of the Year by Horace Mann and the Illinois Principals Association.

The award recognizes assistant principals who have demonstrated a positive impact on their students and learning community.

Criteria for the award includes:

• Demonstrates a positive impact on education and advocacy for children.

• Ensures the school climate is positive and reflects high staff and student morale.

• Moves actively to implement the goals and objectives of the school.

• Works collaboratively with teachers and other staff to improve the educational program and student achievement.

• Involves the community in the life of the school and uses community resources for students.

Now in his sixth year as Elk Grove associate principal, Senteno previously served as dean of students at Rolling Meadows High School for six years, following nine years as a biology teacher. Elk Grove staff and students celebrated the honor with an impromptu hallway parade.

Senteno said, "This recognition of IPA Assistant Principal of the Year is really about all the great people I work with. From the supportive administrative team to the amazing teaching staff, we all work together to make Elk Grove High School a better place.

"In my role as AP, I get to collaborate with everyone, and the true honor of this award is the amazing students that I have the privilege of working with on a daily basis."

Paul Kelly, principal of Elk Grove High School, said, "Arturo exudes a spirit of excitement and possibility in all his interactions with staff and students, and he facilitates for students of every academic and social aptitude an education that transforms their lives and sets them on a course to the postsecondary pathway that best aligns to their interests and career aspirations."

The Assistant Principal of the Year winner was selected from a pool of regional nominees provided by the 21 regions of the Illinois Principals Association. Senteno will be recognized at the IPA's annual Education Leaders Annual Conference in October.
