Arlington Heights Senior Citizens Commission Seeks Nominees for Kenneth Hood Senior Service Award
The Village of Arlington Heights Senior Citizens Commission seeks nominations for the fourteenth annual Kenneth Hood Senior Service Award. The award nomination forms are available on the Village of Arlington Heights website: www.vah.com, or by calling 1-847-253-5532. The deadline for submission for 2022 consideration is June 1.
This prestigious award carries Dr. Kenneth Hood's name because of his long-dedicated service to the older adults of Arlington Heights. Following his retirement, Ken's Senior Advocacy included delivering Meals on Wheels. He served as a member of the Senior Center Advisory Council and later as its President. He was one of the founding members of Arlington Heights Senior Center, Inc. (Foundation).
At Ken's 100th birthday celebration, he addressed his peers, friends, and family. He advocated carrying the "torch of service"on behalf of today's senior population. He indicated his time was almost up. It was time to pass the torch. The Kenneth Hood Senior Service Award is the torch passed each year since 2008. Some prior recipients of the Kenneth Hood Senior Service Award include Mary Stitt, Terry McElroy, Maureen Seleski, and John W. (Jack) Muldoon.
Future nominees should also exhibit a history of excellent service to the senior community, have developed or conducted programs that enhance the quality of life for senior citizens, and have embraced or nurtured activities that affect, in a positive way, the lives of older adults. They must serve as an example by continuing their efforts toward these goals with a zest for the joy of living. Candidates must volunteer in the Village of Arlington Heights.
A winner will be selected and announced on July 31, 2022. An awards presentation and reception will take place in Village Hall at a future date.
