Aurora Snow Angels honored for shoveling for seniors

Aurora lived up to its title as one of the happiest cities in America during a special celebration for Aurora's "Snow Angels," the volunteers who shoveled snow for the elderly all winter.

The City of Aurora ushered in the first week of spring by saying goodbye to winter - and hopefully the end of snowfalls of two inches or more - and thanking more than 100 of its residents who made the cold and snow much more bearable for senior citizens and residents with disabilities.

"Aurora Snow Angels" volunteered for the Operation Senior Shovel program that provided free snow shoveling service to 150 residents for each snowfall of at least two inches.

Activated six times, the volunteers dedicated nearly 1,000 hours this season.

The Snow Angels celebration was an evening of gratitude that provided an opportunity to connect senior citizens with their snow angels, publicly thank the volunteers, and hear stories of appreciation from residents and volunteers.

Each volunteer received a certificate of appreciation.

The city will soon announce its free summer lawn mowing services for senior citizens and residents with disabilities. They will be looking for a new group of volunteers - the Aurora Grass Genies.
