Letter: The message on crime
Having viewed the recent sentencing hearing for Mr. Smollett, I could breathe a bit easier, knowing that there is still some common sense in the Cook County judicial system upon hearing the judge render his sentence to the convicted Mr. Smollett.
However, hearing his sentence could be reduced for his good behavior remains questionable when listening to his tirade after the sentence was read.
I for one do not read any good behavior into his actions in the courtroom post sentencing nor prior to the trial.
As for Ms. Foxx and her comments after the sentencing, if only her office would go after the car jackers and street criminals in Chicago with the type of effort exhibited by the special prosecutor in this case and seek real prison time for these street crimes, as opposed to decorative bracelets on one's ankle, a slap on the wrist, with a " now behave yourself" lecture, maybe the message will get out, that crime once again does not pay.
