Letter: Food animals deserve kindness

I totally agree with Jessica Chipkin's letter regarding cruelty to animals. Pigs are very intelligent animals, however no animals should be so confined that they can't move. If they are soon to die, let them at least be a tiny bit comfortable. I dearly love all animals, thus do not eat them. I heard from a reliable source that cattle actually shed tears when they realize they are in the slaughter line. And those who consume veal and lamb? Think of those babies crying for their mom, being dragged off to be slaughtered. I realize animals will sadly, be consumed, but please be kind to them on their journey.
