Letter: Aurora's Irvin can't hide the past

Richard Irvin is currently spending millions on TV ads promoting himself as the tough-on-crime candidate. However, his long history as a defense attorney who profited from protecting violent criminals is at complete odds with his present law-and-order, lock-em-up stance.

Recent reporting outlines how Irvin's law firm defended someone accused of attacking a police officer and repeatedly sought to represent people accused of appalling violence including domestic battery, sexual assault and kidnapping.

While Irvin may be trying to mold a Republican narrative, his history paints a completely different picture. He seems to have a pattern of taking the side that serves him best in each moment. But he can't outrun his history of profiting off keeping violent abusers free from accountability.

What Irvin needs to realize is that no matter how much he spends on TV ads, no amount of money can erase his past.
