On rewriting history

In response to Christine Svenson's "Judge on actions, not personality" letter recently: She claims that "liberals/Democrats try to rewrite history and distort actual facts." She ignores the fact that Republicans not only are frantically trying to whitewash the events of Jan. 6, 2021, calling an organized and planned attempt to overthrow the results of a free and fair election "legitimate political discourse," but also are in favor of banning the teaching of Critical Race Theory, which tells the truth of America's dark history of slavery, segregation and Jim Crow, as well as the abhorrent treatment of Native Americans at the hands of the U.S. government.

She's the one who needs to get her facts straight.

She goes on to say that the invasion of Ukraine would never have happened under Trump's leadership. What a preposterous thing to say, as of course we can't ever know what the future holds, be it next week, next month, next year or even five minutes from now. What in the world makes her think that Putin wouldn't have done the same with Trump still in office?

If we are going to speculate about that imaginary scenario, my opinion is that Russia still would have invaded - and it would have happened with the gleeful endorsement of Putin's lap dog and authoritarian wannabe Trump, praising his "friend" all the way.
