Apartment fire near Long Grove contained to kitchen

An unattended kitchen fire was contained to the apartment where it started just after noon Thursday, according to the Long Grove Fire Protection District.

Firefighters responded to the three-story, 18-unit apartment building on the 4200 block of Bonhill Drive, which is in an unincorporated area just south of Lake-Cook Road and east of Route 53.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported, said Long Grove Battalion Chief Kevin Biedzycki.

There was smoke and water damage throughout the apartment, which was deemed uninhabitable, but the rest of the building is safe for occupancy, Biedzycki said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
