Bulls' Caruso, Williams cleared to practice, with some exceptions

As expected, Alex Caruso was cleared for full-contact practice as he recovers from a broken right wrist.

The plan is for Caruso to join his teammates on the floor Friday for practice and he could conceivably return to game action as soon as Saturday against Cleveland. But it's possible the team will give him more time and save his return for next week's three-game road trip to Sacramento, Utah and Phoenix.

Bulls coach Billy Donovan said after Wednesday's shootaround Caruso's biggest issue is building strength in the wrist when it comes to things like shooting and passing. He's been able to do full conditioning, so getting back to game shape isn't as much of an issue.

Caruso missed his 22nd game with the wrist injury on Wednesday. He last played on Jan. 21 at Milwaukee when he hit the ground hard after a flagrant foul by Bucks guard Grayson Allen.

Williams partly cleared:

The update on Patrick Williams is he's cleared for a limited amount of full contact. Williams has been out since Oct. 28 with a left wrist injury. His surgery was more complicated since it involved repairing a torn ligament.

"Most of the stuff's been like one-on-one or two-on-two," Bulls coach Billy Donovan said. "The medical guys will make a decision of whether or not he can actually get in there five-on-five. But he's certainly progressing pretty well.

"I do think because of the extent of the surgery and what they had to do and how meticulous the surgery needed to be, they're very conscientious, the doctors are, of getting him to a place where he's had adequate enough time to really heal."

Williams was also knocked out by a flagrant foul, from New York's Mitchell Robinson. Lonzo Ball continues to rehab and is likely a couple weeks from returning to action after arthroscopic surgery on his left knee."

White seeks more work:

Bulls guard Coby White is trying to be one of the team's main scorers despite sitting around during the entire offseason recovering from left shoulder surgery. White pointed out he's missed two years of offseason activity including the pandemic of 2020.

"It would have been nice to have one, but things happen," White said. "There weren't no gyms (open in 2020), so I was at home. I didn't train with nobody, I was using my trainer's gyms that I used in high school. I was lucky enough to have a gym, but his gym was still like a half-court. I didn't hoop for months, I couldn't get up and down.

"A lot of dudes go to L.A., Miami, I couldn't do none of that because of COVID. This year, knock on wood, I'll finally have one and I feel like I can benefit a lot from it."
