Setting the record straight - really?

On Feb. 12, the Daily Herald published an opinion by Bob Janz praising all that Joe Biden has done for America. It seems Mr. Janz, like so many others, chooses to only read (or intentionally pick from) headlines and bullet points to formulate his opinions.

For example, he cites the Biden administration setting records like "6.4 million jobs created."

Wrong.

Those jobs were not created by the current administration, they were filled due to our recovering economy, which lost 21.9 million jobs in 2020.

He goes on about GDP growth of 6.5%. Again, a result of people going back to work and negative 3.4% GDP in 2020 because of the pandemic.

A record stock market, which launched under Donald Trump's business-friendly policies.

A 50-year low for unemployment claims which included benefits ending for many.

Renewed international respect? Have you already forgotten about Afghanistan? And now Russia.

Think about what 7% inflation really means. One hundred 2020 dollars will buy you $93 worth of goods and services today. Unless you're talking about gasoline. A 2020 dollar might get you a pint or two today due to inflation and Biden's energy policies.

Please don't listen to the half-truths spewed by politicians. Don't be content with simply reading headlines and bullet points. Read the entire article from wherever you get your news and formulate your own opinion armed with facts.
