Businesses should be required to serve all
I support small business and like to see them do very well. But I believe when that business door is open and you provide a service, that service must be available to every person entering the premises.
And I feel the United States Supreme Court opened a Pandora's box with the Hobby Lobby and Wedding Cake decisions. Owners do not have the right to pass judgment on customers or impose their personal religious values on them.
It would be different if Hobby Lobby were a religious store, but they are a craft and hobby store and hire individuals from the general population who are free to practice (or not) a religion as they see fit.
And Hobby Lobby should provide benefits without discrimination.
A wedding cake is a service and product business as is web design. I suggest neither should be allowed to discriminate against a customer unless their request was to promote something illegal. Today, same-sex marriage is not illegal, so service must be provided.
I feel the case (touching on the latter) is built on flawed thinking. And to take the point one step further, I feel signs that say a business has the "right to refuse service to anyone" should be barred. I am an amputee/ When I was a child and in the job market, I was told to leave businesses because my presence might make others uncomfortable.
