Million-dollar bond set after car flees police in Elhmurst
A Cook County man's bond was set at $1 million after he attempted to flee police in a stolen vehicle in Elmhurst, authorities said.
Gonzalo Guerrero, 29, of the 14000 block of Lawndale Avenue, Midlothian, appeared Thursday at the bond hearing, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney. He is charged with one count of possessing a stolen vehicle, three counts of fleeing and eluding an officer, one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and two traffic offenses.
Authorities said a 2020 Nissan was spotted by an officer Thursday, one day after it had been stolen in Chicago. When the officer began to follow the car near St. Charles Road and Cottage Hill Avenue, the driver accelerated and turned south onto Spring Road, according to the release. The pursuing officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the car continued at a high rate of speed through a residential area.
The release said Guerrero struck another car and officers had to break the window to help him get out.
Cocaine was found in Guerrero's possession, authorities said. He was transported to the hospital and was treated and released.
Guerrero's next court appearance is scheduled for April 1.
