Teen charged with stealing safe out of Des Plaines home's basement

A Des Plaines teen was arrested Monday after police say he was caught stealing a safe out of a house on the 1700 block of Stockton Avenue.

Mustafa Khazaal, 19, of the 1600 block of Howard Avenue, is charged with felony residential burglary, police said.

The homeowner called police after hearing noises in his basement and then seeing Khazaal walking across his rear yard with his safe, police said.

The homeowner chased Khazaal, and eventually police captured him in the 1600 block of Howard Avenue, according to a news release.
