Naperville begins downtown streetscape project
Street closures began Tuesday in Naperville as the city embarks upon its $4.9 million downtown streetscape project.
Main Street will be closed between Jackson and Jefferson Avenues until mid-May as work crews improve streets, sidewalks and utilities. Pedestrian access will remain for the duration of the project.
The first phase of work will feature new lighting and electric infrastructure, brick pavers, planters and landscaping on Main Street.
Two weeks ago, the city council awarded a contract to RW Dunteman Company to complete the work, which was delayed in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Naperville officials hope the project is finished by late August.
In addition to Main Street, the work will occur along Jefferson Avenue between Main and Webster streets.
