Winter Olympians deserve respect
I am rather disgusted reading Bernie Lincicome's Feb. 20 article that says it is hard to take a sport seriously with a kiss and cry section. Bernie basically said all winter Olympic sports are a joke besides the game of ice hockey. How offensive for those who have worked so hard for so many years perfecting their sport. Yes, it is a spectacle. Yes, there is corruption.
But the awe that a human body can perform the stunts of snowboarding, ice skating and skiing is inspiring and astonishing. The work that those athletes put into their sport is amazing and often very dangerous. I do not speak from any experience in any of these sports but feel he is slamming hard working talented young people.
The Olympics is drama, over commercialized and often disappointing. But Bernie should be ashamed to criticize these sports performed by talented young adults as he did in this article.
Let's be serious, there is also way too much over commercialization, drama and scandal in all professional sports. Why is that OK?
