E-filing state taxes

After reading in the Daily Herald view section about having to get a state ID if you want to e-file your state tax return, I sent away for it. That was some time ago, and I am still waiting. Since then, I used an online tax software to do my taxes. I found out that the state of Illinois would prefer you to use the tax ID that you have to request, but you really do not need it to e-file your tax return. All you need to e-file your Illinois tax return is Last years AGI (adjusted Gross income) from your last tax return and your driver's license or state id. My return has already been accepted by the state using the AGI and valid ID. Maybe I will get the state id number in a couple of months from now.
