Morning basement fire in Naperville renders home uninhabitable

A fire in a basement at a house on Naperville's northwest side caused an estimated $100,000 in damage and left the home uninhabitable.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, Naperville Fire Department officials said.

Firefighters were called to the two-story, single-family residence on the 1100 block of Langley Circle just after 5:30 a.m. for a report from the residents about a fire in the basement of the house.

Fire officials said the five residents and the family's dog were able to escape unharmed before firefighters arrived.

The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of arrival, but fire officials said the attack was hampered by heavy smoke.

Firefighters remained on scene for another 30 minutes to ventilate the house and check for hot spots.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
