South Elgin house fire causes $5,000 in damage
Residents of a South Elgin house that caught fire Monday night were allowed to return to their home once the blaze was extinguished.
South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District officials said the blaze appears to have started on the exterior of the home and caused an estimated $5,000 in damage.
Firefighters were called to the two-story, single-family house on the 0-100 block of Ellington Court just before 9:30 p.m.
Firefighters encountered smoke and flames showing from the home's exterior.
The blaze was extinguished within 12 minutes. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the damage was contained to the exterior of the house, fire officials said.
