Firefighters battle blaze in walls of Downers Grove home
A fire inside the walls of a Downers Grove home Sunday ultimately rendered the three-story house uninhabitable.
Fire officials said they were alerted to the blaze by the residents of the house on the 4800 block of Saratoga Avenue just before 2 p.m. for reports of smoke inside the home.
Firefighters encountered a light haze of smoke inside the house.
A fire was discovered in the wall of a second-floor room, and it was quickly extinguished, fire officials said.
No injuries were reported, but firefighters determined the smoke and fire damage to be extensive, rendering the house uninhabitable.
Records show the single-family house was built in 1887. No damage estimate was available.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
