Paying it forward
While in the a South Elgin grocery store last Thursday I experienced an act of over-generosity. As I was putting my groceries on the checkout counter, the lady ahead of me had paid and left the area.
As the clerk was running my order through the checkout, another woman walked over and said something to both the bagger and cashier.
At the moment I paid no attention, but when I went to put my credit card in the reader, the cashier told me the woman had paid for my groceries. I tried to tell her it wasn't necessary, but she wanted to show her appreciation for my military service.
I served during the Korean conflict. I didn't get the woman's name, and I would like thank her, but wish she would have given the money to somebody or a cause more deserving. She told the cashier she was just playing it forward.
Thank you, darling. I have also played it forward and will continue to do so. Thank you and God bless you.
