Leave lights alone

The Soapbox comment in the Saturday, Feb. 12, Opinion Page titled "Lights out" is precious.

After two winters under the COVID pandemic - the first requiring masks and limited contact with family and friends; the second with mask mandates - someone on the Daily Herald Editorial Board actually criticized people who still have their Christmas lights strung and turned them on at night. Really. You actually said, out loud, that you thought sticker shock from our gas bill would have made people want to trim their electric bill.

Could the reality be that after two dreary and depressing winters, people are trying to lift their spirits by keeping the lights on in their neighborhoods? Honestly, how people use their utilities is really none of the business of the Daily Herald Editorial Board. If this is the most important issue you chose to comment on, maybe you should try another career.
