Two Chicago men charged with robbing Carol Stream phone store
Two Chicago men have been accused of robbing a cellphone store in Carol Stream on Monday.
Diamante Williams, 24, of the 500 block of East 38th Place, is charged with one count of felony robbery. Jonathan Bullard, 28, of the 6700 block of South May Street, is charged with one count of felony robbery and felony aggravated battery.
DuPage County Judge Daniel Guerin set bail at $300,000 for Williams and $350,000 for Bullard, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office.
Police were called at 4:11 p.m. to the Metro by T-Mobile store at 724 W. Army Trail Road.
It was reported three people wearing ski masks entered the store, and that Williams started speaking with the clerk. While the clerk was checking inventory behind a counter, Bullard walked behind the counter, pushed the clerk up against a wall and held him there, saying, "Give me everything," according to the news release.
Williams and an unidentified accomplice then took merchandise, plus money from a cash register, while Bullard took the clerk to another cash register and ordered the clerk to open it, the news release said. Bullard and the third person took money out of that register, then Bullard dragged the clerk to a backroom by his sweatshirt and ordered him to open a locked vault, authorities said.
When the clerk couldn't open the vault, Bullard punched him in the face, according to the news release.
They took three iPhones, about $250 and the clerk's car keys, authorities said.
Williams and Bullard were arrested in Chicago Monday. Chicago, Summit and Illinois State Police aided the investigation.
"The ability to solve this case quickly stems from the swift actions by the responding officers and detectives and outstanding interagency cooperation," Carol Stream Police Chief William Holmer said in the release.
