DePaul coach Bruno to be induced into Women's Basketball Hall of Fame

Doug Bruno, who has coached the DePaul women's basketball team for 36 years, will be inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

The news of the 2022 Hall of Fame class was announced Monday during halftime of the Iowa/Maryland game.

Bruno, a lifelong Chicagoan who also played at DePaul, has led the Blue Demons to 24 appearances in the NCAA women's tournament.

"I am absolutely honored and humbled going into the Hall of Fame," Bruno said in a news release from DePaul University. "But, I never woke up a single day thinking I've got to one day be in the Hall of Fame.

"We recruit players who play for the love of the game and the joy of elite completion. Players who strive for that winning feeling of achievement which comes from being the best you can be - every day.

"Celebrity is a by-product."

The 2022 Hall of Fame class also includes Becky Hammon, Alice "Cookie" Barron, Delisha Milton-Jones, Paul Sanderford, Bob Schneider and Penny Taylor.

Honorees will be inducted on June 11, 2022, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
