New scholarship opportunity for Naperville-area students

Due to the generosity of a Naperville-area member of the American Association of University Women, the organization this year will offer a $5,000 scholarship for a 2021-22 female graduate of either Naperville Unit District 203 or Indian Prairie Unit District 204.

The Cariya Reed Legacy scholarship will be awarded to a student with a 3.0 or higher grade-point average who plans to enter the medical field.

The scholarship honors Cariya Reed, a 7-year-old girl whose life ended tragically due to domestic violence before her dreams could be fulfilled. The heroic efforts of the medical personnel involved prompted the designation of this scholarship to be awarded to a young woman whose future includes becoming a medical professional, especially one dedicated to emergency medicine.

Additional information and an application can be found on the AAUW Naperville Area branch website, naperville-il.aauw.net. Applications are due April 1.
