An Elgin letter to the editor: Censuring Cheney and Kinzinger shameful

Shame on the Republican National Committee for formally censuring and attempting to smear Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger over their firmly held convictions that the insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, must be fully investigated and those responsible be brought to justice.

Has the Republican leadership lost their collective minds? Is there no bottom to the depths that they will go to in order to sweep the happenings of that day under the rug, hoping against hope that the American public will sit back and ignore the fact that there was an obvious attempt to circumvent democracy by the scheming of Trump and his allies? Cheney and Kinzinger are putting their careers on the line to get to the facts, wherever the facts should lead.

They should be commended, and not excoriated for their actions.

The American people deserve to know every detail about that dark day, and anything less is a total disservice to truth, honesty and openness. History will not be a kind judge to the Republican Party, should it continue to stonewall this investigation.
