State police say Hanover Park man did reckless stunts on I-290
A 20-yrear-old Hanover Park man is facing a bevy of traffic-related offenses after Illinois State Police investigators said he and several other motorists stopped traffic on Interstate 290 late last year, endangering other drivers with "reckless" stunts.
State police said they arrested Matthew K. Sim earlier this month after he was caught by officers driving recklessly in Chicago.
A 23-year-old Bolingbrook man was also charged after turning himself in.
State police said that Sim and Steven Sanchez were involved in a motorcade that stopped traffic on I-290 Dec. 19, 2021. Investigators said they conducted an operation Feb. 4 where they tracked Sim's vehicle to a mall parking lot in Chicago and observed him recklessly driving in the lot.
Police said that once Sim's vehicle left the lot, officers clocked him at 85 mph in a 30 mph zone while failing to yield at three traffic lights and following other vehicles too closely.
Sim was arrested on several misdemeanor charges, including reckless driving and reckless conduct, was ultimately given a $50,000 bail amount and then was released after posting 10% for bond.
Sanchez faces similar charges. His bail was set at $15,000, and he was released after posting 10% for bond.
