Overhaul planned for Bluffton Road Bridge in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A bridge in northeastern Indiana is in line for an overhaul.

Fort Wayne officials said this week that Bluffton Road Bridge improvements would include replacing beams and its deck, WANE-TV reported Thursday.

The plan also includes widening sidewalks with lookout points.

The bridge was built in the late 1980s and is safe to drive on, but only has a 12-ton load limit, according to the television station.

Officials said the bridge project is expected to cost between $7 million and $8 million. Federal funds are expected to pay for 80% of the cost. Fort Wayne will cover the other 20%.

Funding for the work is expected to be available starting in 2024. Work is expected to be completed in 2026.
