No. 18 Oklahoma tops ninth-ranked Baylor on late layup
WACO, Texas (AP) - Liz Scott made a layup with 6 seconds left and late-arriving No. 18 Oklahoma won 78-77 at ninth-ranked Baylor on Wednesday night.
After a timeout, Baylor got one more shot but Jordan Lewis missed on a drive to the basket.
Madi Williams had 20 points and Scott 16 after her second consecutive game-winning shot for the Sooners (19-3, 8-2 Big 12), who remained tied with No. 11 Iowa State for the lead in the conference standings. Taylor Robertson scored 14 points.
Sarah Andrews had 23 points for the Bears (15-5, 5-3), who had won five in a row since their loss at Oklahoma on Jan. 12.
The Sooners had planned to fly to Waco, but a late plane cancellation led to them instead traveling by bus about 270 miles down Interstate 35 from Norman, Oklahoma, on a day with deteriorating weather conditions in advance of a rare winter storm in Texas.
No. 10 UCONN 76, CREIGHTON 56
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Christyn Williams scored 17 points apiece, and UConn shook off a slow start to beat Creighton with an ill coach Geno Auriemma in the locker room the entire game.
The Huskies (14-4, 9-0 Big East), who were not sharp in a win over Providence on Sunday, fell behind by double digits early against the Bluejays and didn't take their first lead until the third quarter.
Caroline Ducharme's jumper that bounced twice on the front of the rim before dropping through put them in front and the Huskies were in full control after that, building their lead to 22 points.
Creighton (15-6, 10-3) went without a field goal for more than six minutes spanning the halves while UConn went on an 18-0 run to erase a 32-20 deficit.
No. 11 IOWA STATE 70, No. 25 KANSAS STATE 55
AMES, Iowa (AP) - Emily Ryan and Lexi Donarski scored 15 points apiece, Ashley Joens had a double-double and Iowa State used a dominant third quarter to defeat Kansas State.
The Cyclones scored the last five points of the second quarter to lead 31-25 at the half and outscored the Wildcats 24-8 in the third to go up 55-33.
Iowa was 10 of 14 in the quarter with three 3-pointers while Kansas State was 4 of 19.
Ryan had eight assists, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Joens had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Nyamer Diew added 10 points for the Cyclones (19-3, 8-2 Big 12 Conference), off to the second-best start in school history after the 2000-01 team went 20-2.
Bill Fennelly, in his 27th season at Iowa State, picked up his 350th win in Hilton Coliseum.
Brylee Glenn, scoreless in the first half, matched her career high with 19 points for the Wildcats (16-6, 6-4).
