Famous Eagle Scout alumni include historical greats like President Gerald Ford and local astronaut hero Jim Lovell. Both men achieved their leadership positions in life by first becoming Eagle Scouts, then demonstrating their service and leadership skills in every day events.

Antioch teen Jack Baker, 18, has joined their ranks by becoming an Eagle Scout himself. Baker is the 84th Scout from Antioch Troop 92 to earn the Eagle Award, going back to 1962. He received the award Jan. 8 at a Court of Honor ceremony conducted at the Moose Lodge in Antioch.

"It's a really big honor, and it makes me feel like I have a lot to live up to and do a lot with my life," Baker said.

Baker's project was cleaning up Pedersen Park in Antioch; laying down new mulch on the trails; and building five homemade benches made of treated pine and dispersing them throughout the park.

He also set out to repair existing wood duck nests and clean out invasive brush, giving the park a fresh, healthy look and feel.

Baker is a June 2021 graduate of Antioch High School and now attends the University of Wisconsin.
