Submitted by the Navy Office of Community Outreach

Naval Station Great Lakes announced their Sailors of the Quarter in an awards ceremony Dec. 17, 2021.

Boatswain's Mate 1st Class Joseph Tadeo from Chicago was named Sailor of the Quarter for Great Lakes. Tadeo is Great Lakes' military correction liaison office leading petty officer. He has been in the Navy for 10 years and aboard Great Lakes for nearly two years.

"I am humbled and honored about being the Sailor of the Quarter (for the fourth) quarter," Tadeo said. "I am also thankful for the junior guys and gals for all the hard work they put in, I wouldn't be in this position if weren't for them.

"Also thankful and blessed to the leadership onboard NSGL believing and trusting me. It shows that hard work and dedication pays off.

"My favorite part of my job is being a correction counselor and just being able to talk to prisoners and seeing (other people's) point of view and mindset, and just being able to help them out in either going back to service or being a functioning member of society," Tadeo said.

"Also, as a funeral rifle team detail coordinator, it is always been my pleasure to give a full honor service to those who have gone before us and have given the ultimate sacrifice and just to give them the best service they deserved."

Master-At-Arms 2nd Class Lindsey Acosta from Chicago was named Junior Sailor of the Quarter for Great Lakes. Acosta is Great Lakes' security department Charlie section leading petty officer. She has been in the Navy for four years and aboard Great Lakes for nearly a year.

"It is an honor to be recognized as NSGL's Junior Sailor of the Quarter," Acosta said. "Since joining the Navy in 2017, I have met so many amazing leaders and mentors that have helped me along the way, and I would not have been able to do this without them. I am extremely grateful to even have been nominated in the first place, and I hope to pass on all the experience I gained throughout this process to the Sailors I am responsible to."

Acosta works with the sentries in her section, safeguarding personnel and preventing unauthorized access to the installation, materials, documents, and other assets. Additionally, she works as a duty armorer and manages the daily issue, receipt, and inventory of more than 15,000 rounds of ammunition and 281 small arms and equipment.
