Kids can be history detective with Des Plaines program
This February, the Des Plaines History Center is hosting the Hands-On History program "History's Mysteries."
All children ages 5-12 and their families are invited to attend the program at 1:30 p.m. either Wednesday, Feb. 2, or Sunday, Feb. 6.
Both sessions invite all young historians to examine real artifacts and historic images, ask questions and find clues to determine how these items were used and who might have used them, just as professional curators at the History Center do every day.
"One of the most interesting parts of working in a museum is getting a closer look at all kinds of artifacts and historic images," said Emma Marston, Des Plaines History Center's interpretive curator.
"I think kids will have a great time getting to experience this themselves. It's amazing what these historic artifacts can tell us."
This program is free thanks to the generosity of the Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines. Donations are appreciated.
The Des Plaines History Center is at 781 Pearson St., Des Plaines.
Hands-On History is a monthly children's program series meant to invite public participation and interaction with a broad range of historical topics.
The next children's program will be "Tales of the Des Plaines River" at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, and Sunday, March 6.
Masks are required for all History Center visitors, regardless of vaccination status, for this in-person program, and activities will be held indoors.
