Waukegan man suspected in eight residential burglaries

A Waukegan man who was arrested during a burglary Wednesday morning in Waukegan is a suspect in seven other similar crimes, police said.

The Waukegan Police Department received a call about an intruder at 7:30 a.m. on the 2500 block of Berry Court, according to a news release Thursday.

Police arrested Joseph Segerstrom, 30, as he was trying to leave the house, the news release said.

Segerstrom was charged with residential burglary and home invasion in the Berry Court case as well as residential burglary in a break-in on the 2500 block of Atlantic Avenue earlier that morning, police said.

Police have also named Segerstrom the primary suspect in six other Waukegan burglaries this month: on the 2800 block of Glen Flora Avenue, the 2600 block of Grove Avenue, the 2700 block of Northfield Avenue, the 1300 block of Frolic Avenue, the 2400 block of Grand Avenue and the 1300 block of Metropolitan Avenue.

But Segerstrom hasn't been charged in these cases, the news release said, and the investigations remain open.

Segerstrom remains in the Lake County jail on $350,000 bail and has a court appearance scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 10.
