Waukegan man dies, three others hurt in single-car crash
A Waukegan man died and three others were injured, one seriously, in a single-car crash early Saturday morning.
At about 3 a.m., Waukegan police responded to a crash in the 600 block of Lakehurst Road. The department's Major Crash Unit was called in due to the severity of the crash.
The driver of a 2007 white BMW 7 sedan, identified as a male in his 20s from Waukegan, was taken to an area hospital where he died, police said.
The man's name is being withheld pending family notification. An autopsy is scheduled for next week, police said.
Three other occupants, all in their 20s and from Waukegan, also were hospitalized. Two had minor to moderate injuries and the third was seriously injured but is expected to survive, police said.
Police believe the car was headed eastbound on Lakehurst Road at high speed when the driver lost control. It crashed into the cement base of a light pole in a parking lot. Investigators believe none of the four occupants was wearing a seat belt.
