Fox Valley Park District adding education, event building to Lippold Park
The Fox Valley Park District broke ground Friday for a building at Lippold Park, in which it plans to expand educational and cultural programs offered at nearby Red Oak Nature Center.
The 4,500-square-foot building, designed for use in spring, summer and fall, will also host Scout meetings. The district plans to rent it out for private events such as weddings and company picnics.
It is expected to cost $2.3 million to build. It was designed by Chicago-based Wight and Co.
Other changes are planned for the 39-acre site, which is on the east bank of the Fox River, off Route 25, between Batavia and North Aurora. The district would like to build a pedestrian bridge over the river, but has not lined up funding, according to district spokesman Tim Wagner, The proposed bridge would connect to the Les Arends Forest Preserve on the west bank.
